Recruit more architects and engineers, says Gartner

Businesses need to recruit more tech professionals who can help develop an infrastructure that caters for the increasing use of web services.

Application delivery architects and engineers are needed to help plan, deploy and support networks that allow organisations to make the most of web applications, according to analyst house Gartner.

The growing number of browser-based and software as a service applications, along with the increased interest in service-oriented architecture to link these all up is driving the demand.

The design and management of these new corporate networks will require certain skills - in things like protocol offload, caching and application firewalls - that companies may currently lack.

Because these skills are in short supply, organisations will also need to invest in developing them in-house as well as recruiting others.

Joe Skorupa, research VP at Gartner, said application-delivery professionals are vital for the smooth development and deployment of applications, user satisfaction and for keeping costs down.
