Mitsubishi set to join motor industry Web portal

Mitsubishi could get free entry to an online trading forum for car manufacturers, if its reported negotiations with DaimlerChrysler this week prove conclusive.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi are in talks over a possible alliance, which would give DaimlerChrysler a stake in the Asian manufacturer. The talks are far from finalised, but a deal would almost certainly give Mitsubishi access to the burgeoning car portal.
Access to the portal - launched last week by DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors - is highly coveted, as it is set to become the definitive ecommerce model for automotive manufacturers.
Membership is reportedly high on the agenda of other car manufacturers, including Fiat, Nissan and Renault.
