Covisint turns billions in DaimlerChrysler deal

Car maker DaimlerChrysler has splashed out a whopping E3.5bn (£2.16bn) in a deal hosted by the Covisint e-marketplace.

Five suppliers took part in a grisly bidding war over four days in which 1,200 parts were traded across the Commerce One platform.

The deal is significant because it shows that successful complex orders can be made through online marketplaces and that the industry has moved on from simply trading car batteries and parts.
