The failure of the ASP model to catch on in Europe has been underlined by a survey out today.
Published: 4 April 2001 14:22 GMT
Only one non-US ASP made it into industry news site ASPnews.com's top 20: Netherlands-based Siennax. Only seven of the 20 named had any kind of operation at all outside the US.
ASPnews judged the ASPs on their ability to prove having active customers and revenue streams, and their reputation as innovators.
Other ASPs which made the top 20 and have operations in Europe are Interliant, Intranets.com, Portera, Salesforce.com, StorageNetworks and USInternetworking.
Siennax's CEO and founder Herb Prooy said the survey showed the relative poverty of Europe's native ASP industry: "We don't see any real competition from home-grown opposition - there are many who are positioning themselves as ASPs but aren't really ASPs at all."
He said US players moving into Europe - such as Interliant - are more of a threat.
