silicon.com unveils e-marketplace guide

silicon.com has launched a Guide to E-marketplaces - the latest in a series of microsites examining key strategic technologies.

By Graham Hayday

Published: 26 October 2000 11:30 BST

The in-depth guide (http://www.silicon.com/emarketplaces )- featuring analyses, case studies and video interviews with e-markplace experts - gives the lowdown on everything you need to know about trading hubs, from transaction fees to standards.

The guide takes a hype-free approach to the subject. Derek Knowles, the group IT director at manufacturer Princes Plc, penned one article in the guide, and said: "Currently, the basic e-marketplaces, where indirect goods are traded, are based on quick wins and they often work well because they eliminate inefficient intermediaries that can clog up some supply chains.

"But when you venture beyond these straightforward processes, business-to-business technology is about creating efficiencies in the way companies, organisations and departments work together across traditional lines of demarcation. Adding value to these complex infrastructures is much more demanding."

Other special features published by silicon.com include the Guide to WAP, Broadband: Beyond ADSL, European Entrepreneur 2000, Agenda Setters 2000 and the annual Skills Survey (for more on these, click on 'specials' under the 'resources' section on the left hand side of your silicon.com in-box).
