Symantec warns Dr Solomons deal will cause complacency

By John Oates

Symantec has warned that the takeover of Dr Solomon's by Network Associates could be expensive for customers.

The deal, which is still waiting for shareholder approval, is worth £393m. Each shareholder will get 0.83 Network Associates share for each Dr Solomon's share they own.

John Wakeman, sales and marketing director at Symantec, said: "McAffee has driven prices down by 75 per cent in the last two years in competition with Dr Solomons - the impetus for that has now gone." He also said the merger would raise cultural problems because of the aggressive competition between the two companies in recent years.
