China backs RFID standardisation
International compatibility on the way

SAC (Standardisation Administration of China) announced that a national standardisation workgroup for so-called 'electronic tagging' (RFID) had been established.

According to SAC, this workgroup is in charge of drafting and framing national standards for "electronic tagging", formally called RFID technology, and enable it to be compatible with other current international standards.

If this standard is adopted and approved, RFID technology may take off in China. Market research firm International Data recently reported that the worldwide market for RFID technology in the retail industry would develop to near $1.3bn by the year 2008.
