Hacker penetrates Worldcom network

Notorious net intruder Adrian Lamo has hacked his way into the WorldCom network.

Lamo claims to have entered MCI WorldCom's global data network four times over the past four months, and has since alerted the company and helped them to fix the misconfigured server which allowed them to enter.

Lamo justified his act on the basis that he was doing WorldCom a favour. "I was looking for something to do," he told US wires.

He added: "It's definitely better than it would have been if someone wanted to attack Bank of America's sites and have it blamed on WorldCom." Bank of America is one of WorldCom's customers.

Lamo has been responsible for a string of high-profile network intrusions. His media stunts include hacking into Microsoft's customer records, and getting onto the Yahoo! servers and posting fake news stories.
