Global cyber-crime treaty hammered out

At the European Convention on Cybercrime held in Budapest today, 30 countries agreed to back the EC's proposition for a set of international laws to fight internet crime.

As well as 26 European countries Canada, Japan, South Africa and the US signed on the dotted line.

The Cybercrime Treaty is a bid to create a united front against cybercriminals using borders to avoid persecution.

As well as promising to extend internet snooping powers for each country's law keepers, the group will crack down on crimes including copyright infringement, child porn and security breaches such as hacking.
