Hackers screw-up Formula One performance

It's not the end of the road...

Hackers have severely hampered the Benetton Formula One team's results for this season, according to the outfit's technical director.

Jean-Jacques His told the BBC that industrial espionage had hindered his team's performance.

He claimed hackers cracked the company's systems a year ago and viewed the final engine designs for the car this season.

His said the Benetton team - now owned by Renault - had been forced to change the designs as a result.

It has suffered in the overall Formula One standings this season, with drivers Jenson Button and Giancarlo Fisichella only securing one point from 11 races.

The Benetton team refused to comment further.
