A virus designed to attack mobile phones via text messages, has been discovered in Spain.
Phones connected to mobile operator Movistar are being attacked by the Timofonica virus which sends large numbers of SPAM messages to users' handsets.
Mikko Hypponen, head of research at security firm F-Security, warns the sheer volume of text messages involved has the potential to overload a network.
The virus also poses a threat to laptop computers and pagers and is reportedly behaving similarly to the Love Bug virus as it spreads through opening an email attachment.
