Virus Update: Love Bug fix available for free

By Julian Goldsmith

Published: 5 May 2000 16:19 GMT

With many companies across the globe still suffering from the effects of the 'I Love You' virus, services company Wavex has posted a free virus scanner for the virulent worm program.

The company claims it is the first free bug fix so far available.

A company spokesman said: "The program rectifies problems in the registry to prevent the virus auto-running after a reboot. Then it changes the default home page of Internet Explorer to prevent the infected system from automatically logging on to the one of the three infected Web sites. Finally, it scans all of the drives in the system for files ending in .vbs and provides a list of all infected files."

The download is available on the company's Web site, at http//:www.wavex.co.uk .
