Security firms Sophos and the WildList Organization have launched Revs (Rapid Exchange of Virus Samples) - a global system allowing the anti-virus industry to exchange information on new viruses.
When a company decides a virus is 'urgent', a sample of code is encrypted and sent to the Revs server at Sophos' headquarters. The system then passes the information on to participating companies.
Any company that produces an anti-virus product can join the Revs service free of charge.
