Sophos sets up anti-virus messaging service

By Aled Herbert

Published: 27 April 2000 16:58 BST

Security firms Sophos and the WildList Organization have launched Revs (Rapid Exchange of Virus Samples) - a global system allowing the anti-virus industry to exchange information on new viruses.

When a company decides a virus is 'urgent', a sample of code is encrypted and sent to the Revs server at Sophos' headquarters. The system then passes the information on to participating companies.

Any company that produces an anti-virus product can join the Revs service free of charge.
