Intel to open up security code

By Sally Watson

Published: 10 April 2000 13:00 GMT

Intel is planning to open-source its security code, including its high-level encryption and digital certificate software, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The move is designed to support the Linux operating system and increase Intel's standing in the security market.

Intel's security software is based on Common Data Security Architecture (CDSA), a framework for supporting multiple security-related service providers. The standard covers encryption, certificate management, key recovery, and data storage.

Intel is expected to offer its CDSA security software and underlying code for free download from 15 May.
