Hacker urges e-tailers to secure sites

Another hacker has taken a bite out of a credit card database and posted the information publicly on a Web site chat forum, according to US wires today.

Going under the name 'Curador' the hacker obtained more than 5000 credit card details from an unidentified online Web retailer and posted them immediately onto a chat forum hosted by US portal, Xoom.com.

On Geocities - another chat forum - Curador claims that he infiltrated the unnamed company's secure databases to expose the lack of seriousness online sellers are using when setting up the security on their sites.

He claims that among the credit card numbers listed is that of former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. He claims it was the weakness of the company's SQL Server database product that allowed the violation in the first place.

This follows news last month of the Russian hacker who published 25,000 credit card details after gaining access to CD Universe's online sales database. See 'Hacker publishes credit card numbers on the Web' http://www.silicon.com/a34983 for more information.
