I am interested in the X1 having just returned my Samsung Omnia after a very poor couple of days experience with it.

The Omnia tried to get around the Windows Mobile interface problems by painting a very thin veneer over the Windows GUI. This faild dismally as soon as you ventured away from this slick front end.

By having alternative applications/panels, I am hoping this may overcome some of the interface issues. However as all the videos and demos are all on "pre-release" firmware it is difficult to judge at this stage.

Microsoft need to accelerate their "touch" interface and deliver it to the mobile very quickly otherwise they wall fall behind. Ether that or provide a "GUI-less" Windows Mobile that manufacturers can truly take advantage of...

Having previously slated the iPhone, now that my daughter has one, I must adit to being intrigued by the device more for its ease of use and interface which has been designed from the gound up to be touch friendly.

I still hate iTunes, and would probably only install it on a virtual PC if I ended up with an iPhone. But until something else comes along which has operating system with as good an interface the iPhone is going to be hard to beat.
