Google throws open the labs

Getting your users to come up with new ideas? Cunning. And cheap...

Internet search company Google is inviting users to help it develop innovative services with its new 'labs' site.

Privately owned Google dominates the internet search industry but has been expanding its business remit as it prepares for a widely rumoured stock market launch.

The company emphasises that these ideas are still under development, and not guaranteed to work. A site featuring experimental toolbars, for example, was returning error messages when we visited.
