Entrust has announced it has conducted interoperability testing of wireless transport layer security (WTLS) with WAP servers.

WAP gateways need to be compliant with WTLS in order to perform transactions between the client and the server. Entrust's testing is aimed at helping companies evaluate which WAP gateways, such as phone.com's or Nokia's, are interoperable with WTLS.

Richard Kirk, VP of wireless at Entrust, said certificates are issued to gateways which are fully compliant, in order to prevent interoperability problems in the future

"The early internet was riddled with compliance issues but by issuing testing certificates companies can rely on the technology being fully interoperable," he said.
