Apple has become the first company to license Amazon.com's controversial 1-Click patent and trademark.

The process allows customers to buy online without having to enter address and billing details every time, a feature designed to save time and make shopping easier for the consumer.

Amazon hit the headlines earlier this year by patenting 1-Click - a move that angered many in the industry and led to claims that licensing business processes is anti-competitive.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, said the 1-Click technology would help to take the company's online store to the next level of development.

In a statement he said: "Licensing Amazon.com's 1-Click patent and trademark will allow us to offer our customers an even easier and faster online buying experience."
