Virgin Mobile is aiming to become the world's first mobile company to offer all its customers Internet access from any handset.
The company is introducing a SIM card-based Web browser which can access any site which conforms to WML (Wireless Markup Language).
In a statement, Richard Williams, head of advanced wireless technology at Virgin, said: "The mobile is the Web window of the future. By introducing SIM-based browsing we will enable all customers to get onto the Internet, when they want to, wherever they want to. And they won't need to buy an expensive top-of-the-range phone first.
Virgin hopes to introduce the service this spring.
