Joseph Ash (JA) Galvanising - one of the UK's biggest galvanising outfits - is claiming it's saved £90,000 each year using a computer system from software company, Xpansions.
The customer information system and database product cost the company £120,000 for installation and has been specially adapted to JA's business - which caters to around 5,000 customers whose needs change constantly.
Because the system can react so quickly to these changes it has saved costs dramatically, according to company representatives.
JA claims to be breaking out of traditional moulds in manufacturing where IT is used only in areas like production or materials planning and is attempting to make its systems more customer-related.
