Cabletron is to release a 48-port, 10Mbps Ethernet switch and a 48-port modular version for its SmartSwitch 6000 chassis.

This entry into the market for low-end, high-density Ethernet switches follows the announcement that Cabletron is to acquire NetVantage for $100m (£60m). Cabletron is also due to start selling NetVantage products under its own brand name.
