German car maker, BMW, has promised to create 2,100 jobs in its domestic market, the highest amount since the downturn in the motor industry in 1992.
Record orders this year meant the company was able to announce a half-yearly turnover of DM 31m, up 6.3 per cent on the same period last year. BMW's worldwide workforce grew by 2.2 per cent, in stark contrast to the decision by the firm's Rover subsidiary to cut 1,500 UK jobs in response to the continuing strength of sterling.
