Now here's an odd thing. I don't run any anti-virus software on my home PC and have never been hit by a virus. On the other hand my family run the usual suspects and pay a subscription and frequently get infected.

Isn't it time that the press stopped their mantra of "keep your anti-virus software up to date" and instead started giving proper advice and help to foster correct internet behaviour?

At the moment it is the IT equivalent of telling people what they need is a really expensive telephone linked burglar alarm rather than telling people to ensure that their windows and doors are locked when they go out. Makes lots of money for alarm sellers, but doesn't actually protect anything.
