Internet search engine Ask Jeeves is set to acquire Octopus, gaining control of the company's question answering analysis tool which is designed for corporate customers.
In a statement, the company said the acquisition will speed up its plans for JeevesOne, its own answering analysis product launched last September, by eight months.
In the statement, CEO Skip Battle quietened concerns there will be trouble integrating the two technologies.
He said: "As a company, we have shown that we can integrate new technology to enhance our products. Our integration of Teoma technology on Ask.com is a great example of this. I expect the same level of efficiency and results from our integration of Octopus technology with JeevesOne."
Octopus Software is a privately held company and no price for the acquisition was given.
