Lotus has today launched the latest version of its instant messaging platform, Sametime, to a sceptical response from industry analysts.

The new release - Lotus Sametime 2.0 - sees increased functionality for multimedia operations such as video-conferencing, as well as automatic translation technology covering 14 languages.
Lotus claims the product will perform immediate translations, with massive implications for global ebusiness.
However, at a press conference to launch the beta product, analysts argued that the translation technology was not good enough.
Martha Bennett, VP of Giga Information Group said "People have been researching this area for thirty years. They've spent thirty years to not get there."
