BT Internet fixed its email service at 03:00 BST this morning, following major outages earlier this week.
A few thousand BT Internet subscribers were left without email while the company upgraded its software. In total, BT Internet has around 400,000 subscribers.
A spokesman told silicon.com this morning: "The problems arose when we upgraded our service this week to speed up mail recovery and reduce blockages. There were issues relating to changes in the software architecture that links our database to our application server."
BT Internet had experts working around the clock to fix the errors. Full-scale tests at 03:00 BST this morning proved the problem had been fixed.
The outage did not affect today's launch of BT SurfTime, which offers unlimited telephone calls to one or more ISPs.
