First World uses Oracle setup as ASP launchpad

By Joey Gardiner

Published: 31 March 2000 15:30 BST

Business ISP First World has signed a deal with Oracle to use its Internet platform as the basis of its application service provider (ASP) offering.

WebWare - one of Oracle's independent software vendors (ISV) - will be the first company to use the service and will have its digital asset management software hosted by First World.

FirstWorld hopes that its decision to go with Oracle's platform will enable ISVs with traditionally high-end customised applications, such as WebWare, to extend their reach into the broader small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) market via the hosted model.
