Government to launch 24-hour citizen helpline

By Lisa Burroughes

Published: 28 October 1999 10:43 BST

The UK government has laid out plans to make five key services accessible 24 hours a day through fully integrated call centre and Internet facilities.

People will be able to use the service to notify their local authorities of a change of address and find information about social security packages for the bereaved, as well as help with long-term care assistance. The call centre will also give citizens help with retirement services.

The service is scheduled to be up and running by 2001.
