ERP vendors join ecommerce race

Two leading ERP (enterprise resource planning) vendors have joined the ecommerce bandwagon by announcing the release of e-enabled applications.

PeopleSoft has launched eMarketplace, a product designed to help organisations deploy Internet sites to sell goods and services. According to the company, it combines sales, customer self-service, product marketing, order fulfilment and closed-loop analytics functions. It should be available in the summer.

Meanwhile, JD Edwards has announced ActivEra E-Business, a package consisting of three elements the ERP specialist believes are key to successful ecommerce; self-service applications that extend enterprise software to partners, employees and customers; ActivEra Portal and Activators to personalise applications and services; and supply chain collaboration and trading communities to allow customers, suppliers and partners to work together.
