Quintiles, the US pharmaceutical company, is setting up a European call centre and a main UK factory in West Lothian, Scotland.

Due to open before the end of the month, the move will create 80 local jobs. The company has spent £2m on the refurbishment of the plant that was bought from German company, Boehringer and Mannheim, last summer.

With further expansion expected in the future, the manufacturing plant will become the UK's biggest producer of drugs for clinical trials.
