Lotus Notes beats Microsoft Exchange to top spot

Lotus Notes has beaten Microsoft Exchange as the top choice for corporate email systems, according to a study by an US research house.

Lotus sold 3.4 million licenses for its Notes mail system in the quarter ending 30 September compared with Microsoft sales of 3.2 million licenses.

The figures lay to rest the feud that has been brewing between the two companies over the email market - last month, Lotus executives reacted angrily to claims made by Microsoft that its Exchange system had gained ground over Notes.
